WaveSurgeon features an inbuilt CD extractor option, which will read audio data from
a Compact Disc digitally into the sample editor. It also allows the extraction
of CD tracks to .wav files on disc. This is incredibly useful when combined with
the silence extractor, as you can read in tracks from sample CD's, and let WaveSurgeon
do the work of mapping them automatically.
To use the extractor, you need to firstly select the drive (if you have more than
one) containing the CD you wish to read. You can also choose the dejitter option
- it is almost certainly best to choose 'dejitter on error', as this will improve
speed whilst maintaining quality.
Once you have inserted the CD and drive, if the contents have not appeared, click
'refresh' to display them. From here, you can see each track time, and either
select an individual track to import (just click its name), or check multiple
tracks to extract to disk; additionally, the 'rip entire' option allows you to
rip every track into one big file (this is most useful for CD burning, and as
the files are so huge, you may have problems loading them into WaveSurgeon). If you
are using the latter option, be sure to specify the path of the extracted files
using the 'browse' button at the bottom of the display, and then click 'Rip->Disk'.
The extraction process will then begin.
If you simply wish to import the track, click the 'Import' button.
